Robert Butler : The original painting of Hammock Creek was created from a scene along the board walk on Charlie Bowlegs Creek at Highlands Hammock State Park, just off Hwy 27 N. Near Sebring Fla. It was selected as a subject because of its beautiful setting, but it also offered me room to day dream about Florida's recent past. The name of Seminole Chief Billy Bowlegs made that part easy and gave a spiritual essence to the work that made creating it a treat. The "perception of the subtle beauty; lost amid the glare of the obvious" is what I wish all viewers of my art to experience; in my humble opinion that is the prime objective of all art.

 Hammock Creek: Locked in the embrace of Highlands Hammock, the glassy surface of this wine colored creek sparkles in the fickle winds of a summer day. Shimmering reflections of regal cypress glisten amid the dappled light at waters edge where blue purple hyacinth blooms accentuate the pearl white of egrets patiently waiting. The anhinga also waits! After a busy morning fishing below the surface, he perches atop mossy limbs with wings outstretched in a midday breeze, then like a still life frozen in a surreal pose he disappears amid the fleeting shadows of Charlie Bowlegs' Creek.
 
 There beyond the shadows edge, let the imagination of your mind's eye entertain thoughts of yesteryear when the forest along this very creek was alive with Florida's own Native American, the Seminole! If the spirits of cool winds brussels the leaves beneath your feet; no need to sweat! Just snuggle up to your curiosity and relive yesteryear when Charlie Bowlegs roamed the green kingdom of Highlands Hammock.
